BIOEMTECH, NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes Reach Agreement for Ac-225 Supply

Customers will have consistent access to the alpha-emitting isotope that is used to develop and evaluate targeted radiotherapeutics.

BIOEMTECH has inked a strategic agreement with NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes to supply actinium-225 (Ac-225) for preclinical study usage.

NorthStar and BIOEMTECH Backgrounds

Northstar is a commercial-stage radiopharmaceutical company based in Beloit, Wisconsin. Meanwhile, BIOEMTECH is an Athens-based contract research organization (CRO) developing high-resolution imaging systems for preclinical and translational research. Among these are positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) systems.

According to the agreement, BIOEMTECH customers conducting preclinical studies will have consistent access to Ac-225. The alpha-emitting isotope is critical in the development and evaluation of targeted radiotherapeutics.

By ensuring timely and compliant access, BIOEMTECH says, the agreement will serve to accelerate preclinical radiopharmaceutical development. High-quality isotope material such as the supply of Ac-225 offers compatibility with a range of investigational studies.

Initial deliveries of Ac-225 will commence by the end of the first quarter of 2026. By then, BIOEMTECH’s customers and other partners will be able to request supply through the CRO’s ordering channels. Subsequent to that, NorthStar will provide isotope-specific documentation and guidance on handling.

Importance of Ac-225

“Reliable isotope supply is a major bottleneck in early radiopharmaceutical development,” said BIOEMTECH Chief Quality Officer Maritina Rouchata, PhD. “This agreement enables our customers to run more predictable, higher-impact studies using our imaging platforms.”

“NorthStar is committed to expanding Ac-225 supply for the growing radiopharmaceutical market,” Frank Scholz, NorthStar President and CEO, said. “Working with BIOEMTECH to support preclinical researchers aligns with our mission to advance global access to radiopharmaceuticals.”

NorthStar closed 2025 by announcing several personnel moves on its leadership team. As of Dec. 1, 2025, Victor Miller is serving as Chief Financial Officer and Kathy Spencer-Pike is the new Chief Commercial Officer.

The company says it is the first commercial‑scale producer of non‑carrier‑added Ac‑225 using electron accelerator technology. It also produces a routine supply of copper (Cu)-67.
